World Statistics

Source: Hossain et al. NEJM 2007 (million people)

-  WHO estimates that over 347 million people have diabetes.
- United States and Canada are projected to have a 72% increase in diabetes prevalence from  2000 to 2030
           - An increase of 19.7million people to 33.9 million people.
- South America, Africa, the Middle East, India and South East Asia will see enormous increases ranging from 148% to 164%

The United States is struggling to control this epidemic and improve diabetes management. I can’t imagine the burden of diabetes in the many countries around the world that do not have the resources the U.S. has.
